Starbucks

I assume that Grey's Anatomy is a fairly popular show, being that it airs on multiple times and days. I also think that writing for this show would be pretty easy, as with all hospital shows. I was employed in a hospital for a short time, and during that time I was consumed by the completely fascinating microcosm that is the hospital. It is pure entertainment 24/7. I really don't like Grey's Anatomy, but I sat through back to back episodes with my wife last night for the hell of it. As I watched I pictured the writers gathered together to turn out an episode. I imagined it went something like this: "Mmkay where were we......oh yeah....the panties get pinned to the bulletin board the sexy big girl intern takes the heat for them even though there is no way these panties could fit her plump ass. Then her boyfriend gets jealous and shes happy.......so what's next?" among the silent writers Fredric Jones, the new guy, blurts out "how about an ambulance pulls up and the emt's wheel out a young Hispanic man that has been impaled with a huge tree branch?"........silence........."brilliant who's running to Starbucks?"

Beware Russia

In a world concerned with terrorism, genocide and nuclear-powered despots, Vladimir Putin's Russia is assembling an economic machine powerful enough to force Europe, the US and Asia to their knees.

It does not involve uranium, explosives or suicide bombers, but the natural resources that power the global economy. Russia will soon exert such sway over the supply of oil and natural gas that the OPEC crisis of the mid-1970s could seem trivial. Its pipelines will flow east into Asia and west into Europe and tankers will sail from Siberia to California.

Russia will soon have such control over energy supply and pricing that it will be able to do anything it wants politically.

Imagine this scenario. Europe is importing around one-third of its natural gas from Russia. Putin, or his successor, has an argument with the EU over democratic reform

Russia has now overtaken Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest producer of oil. It already dominates natural gas in a former Soviet state. Meanwhile, China is hungry for more natural gas. Russia changes the flow of its pipelines, channelling more to China and less to Europe, without any drop in its own revenue. Europe's industrial costs rocket, home heating becomes exorbitant and the EU economy collapses.

It was scarcely noticed during the dog days of August, but Russia has now overtaken Saudi Arabia as the world's largest producer of oil. It already dominates natural gas. Around £210m a day in oil and gas tax revenues now pour into the Russian treasury. Russia is now an oil and gas economy, with 52 per cent of all its state revenues and 35 per cent of its exports coming from the energy industry.

Then there are the two state-controlled energy giants, Gazprom - which this year surpassed BP and Shell to become the second largest energy company in the world after Exxon Mobil - and Rosneft. Both are tightly controlled, though sloppily managed, from the Kremlin.

Putin's 'resource nationalism' strategy is the work of oil industry analysts, the modern day Kremlinologists. One of their party pieces is to chart Russia's recent history in terms of oil prices. In 1979, with oil prices at historic highs, the Soviet Union swaggered into Afghanistan. In 1991, with oil prices at record lows, the Soviet empire disintegrated. With oil now in a sustained boom, Russia is once more showing its claws.

The latest plot twists are occurring in the Sakhalin Island oil and natural gas fields. In the mid-1990s, as Russia emerged from the Soviet era and oil was down at $15 a barrel, the exploitation rights to this island off the east coast of Siberia were sold to foreign companies who have since discovered vast, untapped resources. As Asia's economies have exploded, the potential of pipelines running from Siberia into China and beyond has become apparent.

Gazprom, which is already the monopoly supplier of Russian natural gas to Europe, now wants a similar monopoly over exports to Asia. In recent days, Russia has held up

In 1991, with oil prices at record lows, the Soviet empire disintegrated. Now as prices boom, Russia is once more showing its claws fully-loaded Exxon tankers trying to leave Sakhalin Island. It is also attempting to wrest control of Shell's £12bn operations on the island by citing obscure environmental regulations. It has threatened Siberian operations belonging to Total of France and is trying to buy out a large natural gas field jointly operated by BP.

Earlier this year, Putin (left) threatened to shift pipeline capacity from west to east if European companies continued their hostility to Gazprom.

The frosty Putin and the effusive Hugo Chavez of Venezuela may look and sound different, but when it comes to using natural resources for political ends, they are singing variations on the same theme.

While the rulers of the Middle East have required simply that the West turned a blind eye to their domestic habits in return for a steady energy supply, the Russians are likely to demand a far steeper price. The cost of not developing realistic alternatives to oil and gas within a few years will be taking orders from Moscow.

Biggest win

The one that comes to mind is playing Crazy 4 Poker at the Hilton two years ago. I was doing pretty good late at night and was playing green chips @ $100 a hand. The dealers machine was broken so it was hand dealt. Looked at my cards and get four ladies for a cool $2050.00

I've had some big wins on slots but none really stands out like that one.

Trip from HELL-Has to be the one I just returned from. Spent a week in Vegas and did not have a single winning day. Luck was no where to be found. Played alot of everything and nothing was paying. And one moment that I wont forget is getting beat out of a straight flush on Crazy 4 Poker. Three people at the table, guy buys in, dealer misses him in the deal. Others say move the cards as I shake my head. (A card layed is a card played) You quessed it. The guy that got my original cards got the straight flush. At first he would not even look my way but about 5 hands later he put me in with green chips. Small jesture but at least it was something. And by the way, I lost that hand.

Also, a family member got sick costing me $400 cash. Go to check out and only get RFB comped for 3 days. (I'm still fighting that one.)

Now I need a vacation!

I'm wondering

I've been thinking more about your post. How, I'm wondering, did you come to the idea that my 2:05 post was about embryonic stem cell research? There is not a word of this in my post. I suspect that many of us (in this case GK) have become so trained, like Pavlovian dogs, by certain media outlets to jump automatically to "push button issues" that we don't even really read or think any more. We see "science funding" and in a flash, we are doing our programmed tirade about stem cell research (or global warming), even though the trigger was not even about this. This is such a disturbing trend, that our emotions and votes are increasingly controlled in such animalistic or primitive fashion. GK, are you as disturbed about this as I am Posted by Picasa

San Bernardino

Thanks to the National Rifle Association we now lead the world as the source of untraceable firearms ranging from snipers' rifles sent to Macedonia as "agricultural implements" to the handguns discovered entering Canada with a group of would-be terrorists.

Late last year police raided a house in San Bernardino and seized over 800 weapons. Authorities said they would try to trace the source of each one. But since all sales records must be destroyed within 48 hours - an NRA-backed idea - with cash sales the task is impossible. In Pennsylvania, authorities seized 56 guns in the house of a man arrested for killing his girlfriend.

If these weapons stayed in the U.S. it would be our problem. But when they enter the international market and are bought by terrorists and may be used against our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, that is something else. And there is no way to stop these weapons from being shipped abroad.

The NCT averaged three reports daily the first six months of 2006 ranging from a former postal worker in Goleta, Feb. 1, who killed seven postal workers before killing herself, to another man in Indianapolis June 3 who killed seven relatives; and a few hundred others killed for other reasons, mostly because the killer was "upset." Facts are stubborn things and it will be fascinating to see how local NRA people respond. Posted by Picasa

For what?

Latest Israel invasion

In mid-June 1967, I was a young man in Berkeley in need of a medical. The waiting and examination rooms were filled with blaring radio noise. Evidently it turned out to be by a Jewish randomly chosen doctor. Both the doctors and the nurses were laughing and cheering at every new report of Israel soldiers killing more Palestinians, Syrians and Egyptians in their pre-emptive war on their neighbors. At that moment I lost my belief in the Israel of Exodus, Leon Uris and the socialist kibbutz. It had almost all been a lie.

Thirty-nine years later and 100 Palestinians have been killed in the last three-week offensive, the death toll is 320 to the sixth day of the Lebanon invasion, almost all civilians. Lebanon destroyed for a second time in 25 years.

For what? It can't be just the three captured soldiers. After all, Israel has thousands of captives.

Let me guess. The Israelis are feeling they have lost their pride with Sharon pulling out of Gaza. How many enemy deaths will it take to assuage their pride? It looks like about a thousand this time. Should take about two to three weeks more, if the U.S. supports them; maybe occupy a little more land. Posted by Picasa

Posted by Picasa

Weekend Box

A friend wrote a blog entry recently. In it he talked about his opinion on how life isn’t what you make of it and how you shouldn’t suppress your anger and feelings. I responded and told him that I disagree and was fairly brief but here I can be as longwinded as I want. Ok! Life is exactly what you make of it. The people who don’t believe that would argue that you cant control everything that happens and thus other people dictate the events of your life. Well that’s a good way of not taking responsibility for your actions.

AIRPORT

The Sanchez Recall cost is a drop in the bucket compaired to what Sanchez is and going to cost Oceanside - Marina Towers alone will cost Oceanside property owners millions, yes millions. Voters can't afford to wait! Sanchez, Mayor Wood and Shari Macken are costing Oceanside more red ink by not allowing the airport to build hangers SO THE AIRPORT CAN PAY ITS OWN WAY. Is that a responsible council person? Me thinks not. Sanchez is a drain on the Oceanside economy. $400k is a cheap price to pay to recall Sanchez Posted by Picasa

Hair stylist

Hair Stylist

A hair stylist, also known as a hairdresser is someone whose occupation is to cut or style hair to enhance and, or to change a person's image.

Those results are achieved using hair coloring, hair cut and hair texture techniques, based in an innate artistic ability.

Hairdressers are often known as Hair Stylists, Technicians or Beauticians.

In various countries the synonyms change and the usage frequency depends on the normal colloquialisms of the area.

In the US the term Technician and Hair Stylist usually dominate while in English Empire countries like the UK, Australia and New Zealand Hairdresser seems to be the norm.

It's anybodys guess why the term hairdresser was created but rumor has it that it started in the later centuries of English Aristocracy as hair became a LARGE part of the culture.

Dressing the hair was a rich often noble part of ones birth right in the upper classes of England.

Today almost everyone has access to a hair stylist and it is one of those professions (like undertakers) where the hair supply never runs out. Posted by Picasa

Shakira

Magia (Magic) was Shakira's debut album, recorded with Sony Colombia in 1991, when she was 15. The album did not fare well commercially, selling less than one thousand copies. After Magia, Shakira released Peligro (Danger) in 1993. The album was better received than Magia, but Shakira decided to take a hiatus from recording so that she could graduate from high school. Posted by Picasa

Posted by Picasa

LA TORTURA

LA TORTURA
[Shakira:]
AAaaay... AAaaay...

Ay amor me duele tanto

[Sanz:]
Me duele tanto

[Shakira:]
Que te fueras sin decir a dónde
Ay amor fue una tortura...
Perderte

[Sanz:]
Yo sé que no he sido un santo
Pero no puedo arreglarlo

[Shakira:]
No sólo de pan vive el hombre
Y no de excusas vivo yo

[Sanz:]

[Sanz:]
Con siete velas te invocaré

[Shakira:]
AAaaay... AAaaay...

[Sanz:]
Cosita bella, coje otra vela

[Shakira:]
AAaaay...

Please report any inappropriat comments to us

[Sanz:]
Ay amor me duele tanto, me duele tanto
Que no creas más en mis promesas

[Shakira:]
Ay amor

[Sanz:]
Es una tortura

[Shakira:]
Perderte

[Sanz:]
Yo sé que no he sido un santo
pero no puedo arreglarlo

[Shakira:]
No sólo de pan vive el hombre
Y no de excusas vivo yo

[Sanz:]

[Shakira:]
AAaaay... AAaaay... AAaaay... Ay Ay
Ay todo lo que he hecho por tí
Fue una tortura perderte
Me duele tanto que sea así

Sigue llorando pero
Yo ya no voy a llorar... por tí Posted by Picasa
